a magical burial journey through life and death and back again…
with Robert Steijn and El_Lore

This is a workshop in which we relate deeply to the earth. In preparation for going underground, we will do rituals and meditations around dying, but also on bringing the life force back into full bloom. Only to die again and become one with the earth. The weekend builds up to the live burial ceremonies of all participants longing to go deep into the experience. But the other half of the ritual happens above ground, in a gesture of solidarity, mourning, and connecting to the other side, through the buried body.
Going to the underworld and coming back is entering into an otherworldly understanding of existence, and our place in it. It is a ceremony of connection to what we lost or are afraid to lose. Connecting to the glowing life force that hides underneath.

We literally live on the surface of things. On top of the soil, building our lives upwards and forwards, trying to make sense of our place in the world. But down under, this life looks very different. There is life in the underworld, it is both a place of dying and being reborn. It is a place of complex networks of communication, of far-reaching mycelium connections, carrying information invisibly from one species to another. Becoming one with the earth means becoming one with a larger understanding of the cycle of life and death. And of our place in that world. Moving underground and coming up again and again, we practice both fear and acceptance. We rehearse death and return, in the movement of the wheel of the year.

We will end the workshop with a celebration ceremony, honoring our deepened understanding of the life fore coursing through our veins.

PRACTICAL:

Place: Elle’s place, Heist-op-den-Berg

Price: You pay 250 euro for the workshop, and 50 euro for the (vegan) food.

Accommodation: You can stay over and sleep on a mattress. Mattresses are provided but bring your own bedding. Price per night is 5 euros.
