RITUAL CRAFTING – A Course in Rituals 3

10-12 December 2021 – Ardennes

The Monastery Live is a hands-on place for spiritual practice. And one of the important aspects of spiritual work is to transform your environment into a place of connection, focusing your attention and getting in tune with the world around you. Although different traditions have different tools for this work, most of them share some basic techniques, like the definition of the ritual space, the connection with the elements, the incantations/prayers to focus the energy, sharing incantations in singing and movement. Ritual in its most basic sense is transforming our relation to the world, singing it into being through the shift in our attention, which moves our sense of possibility and even changes ‘reality’ as we experience it.

In this third workshop of ‘A Course in Rituals’ we work on crafting our own personal rituals, based on the Psychomagic practice: we dive deep into our personal stories and desires and choose objects that represent the elements we want to transform or realign. Working with personal objects and transformational actions, we then start changing the way we experience ourselves and our relation to others or to the ‘problem’ at hand.

You can follow this workshop without having attended the first two parts. For the personal crafting practice, it would be good that you bring some (not too big) objects that can help you to make your ritual more intimate and more closely related to your life. As a preparation, you could already start thinking about what it is you would like to transform in your life, and which objects you feel might be significant for the ritual. F.e.: if you want to work on your relation with your sister, you might bring an object that represents her. Or if you have trouble at work, you could find a work item that is meaningful to you. Keep an open mind, and let your intuition guide you.
